Oklahoma State Football: 3 Takeaways from Liberty Bowl win vs. Missouri
By Shelbie Warr
1. Both of these defenses stepped up when their number was called.
Neither of these teams are really known for strong defensive play. Oklahoma State is known for high powered offense and physicality. Missouri is known for…well for Drew Lock and winning the SEC East when everyone else was horrible around said division.
Now, neither team really played lights out defense. Each team put up more than 30 points, which tells you that these two defenses weren’t giving their best every single play. However, they did step up when their number was called so to speak.
Oklahoma State made the big play at the very end and kept the Missouri receivers in check for much of the game. Missouri made great plays of their own, keeping this game close. The most notable to me would be holding the Cowboys to a field goal when a touchdown would have been the nail in their coffin so to speak.
At this point, while the offenses will be much of what is talked about in this one, the defenses deserve just as much praise. They did what they needed to do to keep their team in a position to win and that in itself is a big deal for the units who haven’t been known for great defensive play.
