Texas A&M Football: 3 takeaways Gator Bowl blowout of NC State

2. No disrespect to that NC State offensive line.

Texas A&M’s defense had quite the game on New Year’s Eve. They were able to get quite a bit of penetration to take down Ryan Finley over and over again. However, I would like to say right now that there should be no disrespect to the NC State offensive line. This is a unit that hasn’t allowed much in terms of sacks and big defensive plays all year. That is something to be celebrated.

All that being said, let’s talk about some of the players that Aggie fans should be excited for. First is Tyrel Dodson who had a pick-six in the game. Of course, Dodson may be leaving for the NFL, but we should all be proud of him and what he has done for this team- especially tonight. Dodson is one of those quiet leaders of the defense that many have forgotten about and for him to have some of the plays of the night tonight.

The next is Leon O’ Neal, who made his first start of the season in the Gator Bowl against NC State. He intercepted Ryan Finley at the end of the first half and made quite a few big-time plays that put this game on ice for the Aggies. The true freshman was finally able to put his money where his mouth is so to speak as he finally found the field and showed what he is made of.
