2. Ryan Willis emerged as the top quarterback in the Military Bowl

When Ridder went down for Cincinnati, it opened the door for Virginia Tech quarterback Ryan Willis to showcase his own skills and emerge as the top quarterback in the Military Bowl. Willis seized the opportunity, giving Virginia Tech a chance to beat a 10-win opponent. Even in defeat, Willis proved himself the top quarterback in the game.

The Hokies quarterback finished the day 20-of-31 in the rain, throwing for 219 yards with two touchdowns. His late pick on the final drive ended Virginia Tech’s opportunity for a comeback, but until that point Willis had been the main reason why the Hokies were able to keep trading the lead back and forth against a tough Cincinnati defense.

Willis also added a rushing touchdown and finished with 33 net yards on the ground. It was a respectable performance from the junior that sets him up as a quarterback to watch in the ACC Coastal in 2019.
