Despite a big early lead for Kentucky Football, Penn State fought their way back before the Wildcats prevailed in the final moments.
Kentucky controlled Penn State for most of the Citrus Bowl. The Wildcats were up big at halftime and even bigger in the third quarter, but Trace McSorley was not ready for his college career to come to an end just yet. He fought to the end, but it was ultimately Benny Snell and the feisty Kentucky defense that won this game for the Wildcats.
Here are three takeaways from the Wildcats’ 2018 season finale:
3. Big time props to Trace McSorley, but his coach made a horrid decision.
This kid is tough, there is no other way to put it. Without a win, many will let his effort in this one fade away into obscurity. However, that is just a horrible way to look at this kid. He played through this game with some kind of injury in the fourth quarter, leading his team to 17 straight points in the fourth quarter and did his best to win this game for Penn State.
However, his coach James Franklin made a horrid decision near the end of the game. On fourth down, instead of going for it in the red zone looking to take the lead. Instead, they went for the field goal to make it 27-24 in favor of Kentucky.
Penn State didn’t get the ball back until there was one second left on the clock. That doesn’t exactly give you time to put together a game-tying drive.
