3. Seth Littrell
Another offensive mind, Seth Littrell was ready to leave North Texas for Kansas State until the deal fell through at the stroke of midnight. Littrell has turned around cellar dweller North Texas and posted a 23-17 record as coach of the Mean Green. Littrell’s background is as an offensive coordinator and his time calling plays in Chapel Hill gave Larry Fedora his best years at UNC.
UNT finished 2018 with a 9-3 record and a 31st overall ranking. The UNT offense was ranked 33rd and the defense was ranked 48th showing a more balanced approach than Candle at Toledo. More importantly, the kicking game at North Texas was 5th overall per the S&P+ showing an attention to detail that other head coaches don’t understand.
If the Mountaineers administration is concerned about developing Jack Allison, Littrell has done yeoman’s work with quarterback Mason Fine. Fine has thrown for 3,793 yards and 27 touchdowns with only five interceptions. Equally as important, Fine averaged 8.1 yards per passing attempt last season showing his accuracy and intelligence.
Littrell just re-upped with UNT and seems ready to stay the coach of the Mean Green for the time being but couldn’t have anticipated the WVU job coming open, this could be his time to jump to the Big 12.
