Texas A&M Football: Aggies’ Top 10 Moments of 2018
By Shelbie Warr
1. Kellen Mond to Davis sends the Ags to OT with last-second TD vs. LSU
The top play of the season belongs to quarterback Kellen Mond and his wideout Quartney Davis who caught both the game-tying touchdowns that meant everything, one in regulation and one in the seventh overtime. Of course, as the headline says, that No. 1 play is the play in regulation.
This game seemed dead in the water. Kellen Mond had just thrown what everyone had decided was a game-ending INT to Grant Delpit. However, it turns out that wasn’t the case. Instead, it was determined that Mond’s knee was down after a fumble of sorts and as a result, the Aggies held on to possession.
A few plays later, Mond spiked the ball to leave one second on the clock and have time for one last play- one last prayer. Despite much argument from LSU head coach Ed Orgeron that time had expired before the spike happened, the Aggies got one more play. What ensued was the beginning of insanity and excitement that would last for seven overtimes- a touchdown catch by Quartney Davis with one second on the clock. That touchdown is shown above.
Why does this one rank No. 1? It is due to great plays and concentration by both quarterback Kellen Mond and Quartney Davis. I also think it was a growing up point for Kellen Mond and a moment of redemption for Quartney Davis- who was in the center of the touchback controversy against Clemson near the end of that game.
Davis has been through quite a bit of ups and downs between injuries and everything else under the sun and for him to get this play and then the play that ultimately led up to the winning two-point conversion is fitting and a great sign for the future for Texas A&M.
