3. Taking down LSU: October 6, 2018

This is a big deal for a program trying to bring itself back from the basement of the SEC East so to speak. LSU has been an SEC West powerhouse, though they are no Alabama, and that game is never an easy match for these two programs. It also doesn’t help that many were sure that Dan Mullen couldn’t pull this one off because he had a history of not showing up in big-time matches. Boy were the doubters wrong.

This one, much like the Mississippi State matchup a week before, was a grind from the beginning. Feleipe Franks was decent, but nowhere near enough to win a game against an LSU offense that can go off for big-time production any second. However, once again, the Florida defense came through giving the Gators a 27-19 victory late in the second half.

Why is this game in the countdown? At this point, Florida had just cracked the rankings, sitting at No. 22. LSU was No. 5 in the nation. If there was ever a breakthrough game for the Gators in terms of moving up the rankings, this one was it by a long shot.
