SEC Football recruiting still running circles around competition

SEC Football approaches National Signing Day with a firm lead on the rest of the country. By every measure, no other conference is anywhere close.

Alabama might have been blasted by Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, but the SEC will get their revenge when the 2019 recruiting cycle concludes on National Signing Day in February. The nation’s most dominant conference owns four of the top five and 11 of the top 25 recruiting classes in the nation — and there’s still time for the rich to get richer.

Alabama, Georgia and Texas A&M rank No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 in the 247 Sports 2019 Recruiting Rankings and have combined to either sign or earn commitments from 10 5-star recruits between them. Those three teams have added more 5-star players than any other conference in the nation. The SEC currently holds commitments from 16 5-star players, half of the nation’s 32 5-star recruits in the 2019 class. They’re in the running for a handful of the uncommitted 5-stars who’ve yet to make their college choices.

It’s not just 5-stars, from top to bottom, the SEC has already brought in the best of the best talent in the nation. They’ll finish with the top classes in 2019, just like they did in 2018, 2017 and beyond. The 2008 Miami recruiting class was the last non-SEC recruiting class to finish No. 1 in the nation. Since then the SEC has finished at the top ever since. They’ve also won seven of the following 11 national championships.

People love to hate the SEC, but there’s a reason. The SEC brings in better players, wins more championships and produces more top-round NFL Draft selections. No matter how much fanbases across the nation might not like to hear it, it’s a story that’s not going to change this year — or any time soon.
