Utah Football: 5 takeaways from successful 2018 season
4. Britain Covey is a scary threat
Utah knew it was getting a guy who could do a little of everything when Britain Covey committed to the program but the Utes probably didn’t expect this type of production just two years into his career. He was just a lowly-ranked three-star recruit from nearby Provo, Utah, and wasn’t recruited by many major programs.
Fast forward a couple of years and he looks like one of the most dynamic threats in the Pac-12. He came in as an all-purpose back and he finished the 2018 season No. 1 on the team in receiving and fourth in rushing, averaging 9.0 yards per carry.
The coaching staff likes him more as a receiver, which is why he had just the sixth-most carries on the team this season. He was in there to catch passes and he did just that, pulling in 59 receptions for 611 yards and a score. The scary thing is, he’s just scratching the surface.
Covey finished second on the team, in terms of receivers and running backs, in yards from scrimmage. He proved to be effective in both the run and pass game and will be even more crucial to the offense moving forward.
The Pac-12 better watch out next season because Covey is back and ready to post new career-highs.
