Kentucky Football: Top Moments of Wildcats’ successful 2018
By Shelbie Warr
2. A Citrus Bowl victory caps off a season to remember.
The Kentucky Wildcats have been a basketball school for as long as many people can remember. No one gave this team a chance. No one believed this team could do much of anything. However, they proved everyone wrong in a hurry with a victory over Penn State on New Years Day in the Citrus Bowl.
We will talk about Benny Snell in a minute, but let’s just talk about how much this win means to a program like Kentucky. This win, this season shows the world that the Wildcats are ready to play. Finishing in the top 20, putting together a 10 win season is no small feat for this program.
Big plays? Well, Lynn Bowden Jr. scored on another punt return for the Wildcats. I bet he didn’t have to demand to return that one. There were so many impressive defensive plays, we can’t even count them all. Simply put, Kentucky has their defense to thank for a game like this.
1. Benny Snell with a record-breaking performance.
Earlier in the season, Benny Snell became the all-time touchdown leader in Kentucky history. As if that wasn’t good enough, he one-upped himself as he added another title: the all-time Kentucky rushing title. As a player already declared for the draft, a guy that will be irreplaceable for the Wildcats- there is no better way to cap off a historic career for a wonderful guy like Benny Snell.
He finished this game with 26 carries for 144 yds and two touchdowns. His performance allowed Kentucky to hold off the Penn State comeback and finish one of the best seasons in Wildcat history. Congratulations Kentucky- you deserved this season and Benny Snell deserves every bit of praise he is getting.
