Washington football passer Jake Browning was one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. He’ll be lucky to be drafted after his latest fiasco in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

Jake Browning finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2016. A little over two year’s ago the national consensus regarding the former Washington quarterback was clear — he was a top three quarterback in the nation, trailing only Baker Mayfield and Deshaun Watson. Both of those quarterbacks finished higher in the Heisman race than Browning and went on to become first round picks and NFL starters. Browning will be lucky to be drafted.

John Ross departed following the 2016 season. Dante Pettis left the following year. Without his star pass catchers to bail him out, Browning looked like a shell of the passer who had thrown for 43 touchdowns during the 2016 season. He combined to throw 35 touchdowns over his next two seasons, wilting rather than flourishing as his college career neared its end.

Following another tough outing at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, Browning’s downward trending college career is over. He completed 9-of-17 passes for 114 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

The starter for the national squad, Browning’s blunders ended up being the difference. The American team scored three points off of Browning’s two turnovers and won the game by three, 10-7.

Browning threw his last collegiate touchdown in mid-November. He did not throw a touchdown in Pac-12 Championship Game, the Rose Bowl or the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Counting his pair of interceptions in this most recent exhibition, Browning had as many multi-interception games this season as he had multi-touchdown games against FBS opponents.

NFL scouts have been watching Browning, looking for any sign the 2016 version is lurking somewhere beneath the surface. So far he’s done nothing to assuage their concerns. Barring an incredible combine, it’s hard to envision Browning’s football career continue much further past his NFL PA Bowl dud.
