The 2018 SEC football season is in the books. The 2019 season will be here soon enough. Where do all 14 teams stand entering the offseason?
The SEC had an exciting year, even though the top two teams in the conference both lost their bowl games. Each week this season, I put together power rankings for the conference. The question was simple: who did enough in the past week to move up and who is on their way down? Now, the question is broad and aimed toward the future.
So, as we get started, remember the question we are asking as we look at each team. Which way is this group trending?
Vanderbilt Commodores: Dead on Arrival
At this point, it is hard to really decide whether the ‘Dores are finally moving up in the world or if they are simply falling to the wayside once again. For that reason, they get the “dead on arrival” stamp as we head into the offseason. There isn’t much happening for the Commodores. Yeah, they got a bowl game and that was kinda cool.
Arkansas Razorbacks: Nowhere to go but up, right?
Should I call the Razorbacks dead on arrival? Do I say they are declining after losing two quarterbacks to the craziness that has become the transfer portal? Not that Cole Kelley and Ty Storey were all that good to start with, but they still are a big loss for a team that now is stuck with a graduate transfer from SMU and John Stephen Jones.
This team had all of two wins in 2018 and none of those came within conference play. They lost to North Texas and Colorado State. At this point, the Razorbacks have nowhere to go but up, at least I hope for their sake that is the case.
