10 former college football standouts who’ll impact American Alliance of Football
7. Aaron Murray, QB, Atlanta Legends
Ex-Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and the aforementioned Robinson could team up in the Legends’ backfield to make for an interesting duo.
Murray, the successor of Matt Stafford, was a four-year starter with a playstyle marked by consistency (and winning).
He spent the entire duration of his college eligibility in Athens and in each of those seasons, threw for more than 3,000 yards and at least 24 touchdown passes.
Murray benefitted from having a strong supporting cast such as star wide out A.J. Green but still holds nearly every record possible to be achieved by a quarterback including career passing yards (13,166) and passing touchdowns (121).
Murray’s dominant play in college landed him as a fifth-round choice by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2014 NFL Draft, but his professional prospects didn’t stay there for long.
As a bit of a journeyman, Murray was rostered on the Cardinals, Eagles and Rams before his NFL career was halted.
His final season in the NFL came in 2017 and he was signed by the Legends in 2018. Thus, he hasn’t been out of the game for that long and at the age of 28, should still have some gas left in the tank for a possible return to the NFL.
