Texas football is back, according to Sam Ehlinger, but a strong showing on National Signing Day could inch the Longhorns even closer to the top.

Tom Herman and the Longhorns already have an incredible 2019 recruiting class — ranked No. 5 in the nation by 247Sports — headlined by five-star wide receiver Jordan Whittington, four-star wide receiver Jake Smith, and four-star linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd. With a few key commitments on National Signing Day, though, Texas could once again become a national force to be reckoned with.

Losing key cogs like Kris Boyd, Breckyn Hager, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, P.J. Locke III, and Anthony Wheeler are hills the Longhorns will have to overcome, but there’ll be no shortage of talent in Austin for the 2019 season.

Should Texas be expected to win the Big 12? Or is that still too high of a goal? With the Oklahoma Sooners landing another great quarterback via the transfer market in Jalen Hurts, don’t expect them to fall off. But the Longhorns are coming.

The two most important pieces to the team return, though, in head coach Tom Herman and quarterback Sam Ehlinger. The team’s second-leading rusher in Keontay Ingram will be back, as well as Cade Sterns, the team’s interception leader. So while they did lose integral pieces, there are plenty of players eager to return and lead Texas. What recruits will join that hunt on National Signing Day?
