Penn State football looks to sign a top recruiting class for 2019. Who are their targets left for Signing Day?

Penn State did not finish the 2018 season the way they wanted, losing to Kentucky in the Citrus and falling short of double digit wins for the first time in three seasons. However James Franklin is closing in on perhaps his highest ranked recruiting class since becoming head coach of the Lions.

The NCAA made it easier last summer for players to transfer with the addition of the transfer portal. This off-season players across the country are taking full advantage of the new rules. Penn State has seen one of the highest number of players enter the portal. Most of the players are not starters or players that have seen their playing time reduced due to younger players playing well.

Penn State currently sits with 20 commits in the class and ranked 10th per 247Sports. Usually this late in the game, the recruitment process would be nearly complete. However the transfers along with early exits to the NFL Draft has opened up scholarships for the Lions to use. They have the opportunity to go after some players they normally might not have been able to pursue this late in the recruitment process.

There are a handful of guys scheduled to visit campus before National Signing Day. The coaches will have one last shot to make their case they belong in the blue and white. Here are the top five targets remaining for the Lions.
