This offseason will see quite a few players head off to the NFL. The question now is who will step up in their place and breakout in SEC football in 2019?
The 2018 season saw quite a few big name upperclassmen step up and live up to billing so to speak. Now, those players have declared for the NFL Draft or are at the very least are considering it. Big names like Devin White, Greedy Williams, Trayveon Williams, Dre Greenlaw and Benny Snell are among those heading out to the Draft in 2019. With all of that happening around them, it is the turn of some underclassmen to step up and have breakout seasons of their own.
If you haven’t already heard, the SEC is pretty darn good at recruiting. So even though all of these big time names are headed out of town, those holes can be filled quickly and successfully given what their coach is able to put together on the recruiting trail.
Most of the players we will discuss here aren’t 2019 recruits, but guys that will at the very least be sophomores in the 2019 season. I just don’t have enough proof yet that the incoming recruits are breakout ready just yet.
As I am sure is already clear, this piece we will go team by team discussing two possible breakout candidates — one offensive and one defensive — starting with the defending conference champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide.
