Georgia football has a shot to land the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation for 2019, but who is left on the board for National Signing Day?
For the second straight year, Georgia’s national title hopes came down to a matchup with Alabama and, just like last year, the Bulldogs put up a heck of a fight — in the SEC Championship Game — only to fall thanks to an epic comeback led by backup quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Georgia’s bid for back-to-back SEC titles came up just short as Kirby Smart was unable to defeat his former teacher in Nick Saban in consecutive years. This loss sent Alabama to the College Football Playoff and kept Georgia at home — though many fans believed the Bulldogs earned the right to the fourth spot for how well they played all year and nearly beat ‘Bama.
Unfortunately, Georgia was upended by a motivated Texas team in the Sugar Bowl, shocking the nation. If Georgia wants to get to Alabama’s level and stay there on a consistent basis, it needs to continue stringing together some elite recruiting classes.
Who are the top five targets for the Bulldogs as National Signing Day approaches?
With how strongly the Bulldogs’ 2019 class is coming together, you don’t often see room for three-star recruits, but Brett Seither from Clearwater, Fla., is a name to keep an eye on.
The three-star tight end could help fill a need as former five-star Isaac Nauta has decided to skip his senior year and head off to the NFL. The tight end position could soon be up for grabs as Nauta’s backups are mostly upperclassmen.
Seither recently released his list of top-five schools, including the Bulldogs, and it seems as if his recruitment has blown up over the past few months with other programs like Alabama, TCU, Michigan State and Penn State on his list.
Kirby Smart will have to wait until signing day to see if he beats out fellow SEC foe Alabama and a few other national contenders. Seither is ranked the No. 45 tight end in the class, per 247Sports.
