Big Ten Football: Top 10 recruits joining the conference in 2019
Wide receiver has been an area Ohio State has thrived at ever since Urban Meyer took over the reigns of the program in 2012. Receivers such as Philly Brown, Devin Smith, Michael Thomas and even former quarterback Braxton Miller had fantastic production during their time at Ohio State. With veteran receivers like Parris Campbell and Terry McLaurin leaving, this brings in a new crop of receivers for Ohio State led by Garrett Wilson.
Wilson, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound receiver from Austin, Texas, dazzled in his career as a receiver and defensive back at Lake Travis High School. The facet of his game I was most impressed with was his ability to make plays out of nothing. Best example of this comes early in the video above where he turned a simple smoke screen and danced around defenders and sprinted for a 35-yard touchdown.
Wilson doesn’t show absolutely blazing speed, but once he’s in the open field, you aren’t gonna catch him. He also displays the ability to make tough catches with defenders draped all over him, something he could use to his advantage playing in a slot receiver spot, which I envision him doing early on in his career. He may take big hits, but his tape shows he can repeatedly get up from taking punishment.
