LSU Football is seeking to put a bow on a Top 10 recruiting class with a big finish on National Signing Day. Here are their top remaining targets.
After a breakthrough 2018 season, LSU football is poised to lock up head coach Ed Orgeron long-term. Coach O has led the Tigers to a 25-9 mark since he took over as the team’s interim head coach following Les Miles’ dismissal in 2016, including a 10-3 mark in 2018 that was capped off by a Fiesta Bowl victory over UCF.
Optimism for further heights in 2019, namely dethroning Alabama and ascending to the top of the SEC West, is high as LSU brings back more returning production than any other SEC school. That’s not to say that there aren’t some holes to fill in Baton Rouge; there is, particularly at linebacker in identifying a replacement for Butkus Award winner Devin White. They’ll also have to replace their top cornerback in Greedy Williams, but the Tigers have a storied history of reloading in the defensive secondary after losing first round draft picks.
(The nation’s top ranked cornerback, five-star Derek Stingley, is an early enrolle and could factor into the competition to replace Williams.)
The return, and the improved play down the stretch of the season, of Joe Burrow is the biggest reason for optimism in Death Valley as the focus shifts to 2019.
Before that focus can completely shift to spring football and player development for next season, Orgeron and company will be looking to put a bow on an already strong recruiting class. The Tigers sit at No. 8 in the 247 composite team rankings with 21 players committed.
LSU signed 19 of those 21 during the early signing period with four choosing to enroll in classes early. The two non-signed commitments – four star cornerback Maurice Hampton and four-star offensive tackle Ray Parker – are expected to sign with the Tigers on Wednesday.
That would seemingly leave LSU with four spots to fill between now and National Signing Day, with several key targets still on the board. LSU will host one more group of visitors this weekend prior to Wednesday’s signing day, with hopes of swaying prospects down to the Bayou.
A big finish on Wednesday could vault LSU up into the Top-5 in the class rankings. Let’s take a look at their top five remaining targets with less than a week to go in the process:
