Florida State Football: Deondre Francois dismissal was smart move
Florida State football announced the dismissal of Deondre Francois on Sunday afternoon, following a video that suggested domestic abuse.
Sometimes, there are things you just cannot do if you plan on being held in high regard and being looked at as a role model for young athletes and people. Deondre Francois broke Florida State’s trust and shattered that ‘role model’ label with alleged domestic abuse.
Francois has been accused by his ex-girlfriend of domestic abuse which was shown in this video below.
Francois’ dismissal from Florida State may be shocking since it came out of nowhere in the past couple of days, but the program felt that his alleged actions were too much to overcome and that’s not something the Seminoles want representing their football program.
Was it the right move? Absolutely.
These days, you can’t even take a chance with off-field issues like this egregious one. Until it’s officially proven, it’s all alleged actions at this point, but the evidence seems to be there and Florida State wasted no time. This was a smart move for the program and sets a good example for the rest of college football. Willie Taggart showed that no matter how important of a player you are, there’s no place on the team for guys who don’t respect others — in this case, women.
Francois started at quarterback for the Seminoles this season and had a rough go of things because of his offensive line’s struggles, but he was hoping for an NFL future which is looking cloudy at this point.
You’d be hard-pressed to find an NFL team jumping at an opportunity to employ Francois even if he does have a bright future on the field.
Florida State did the right thing but it was a fairly obvious decision. Let’s hope other programs follow these same steps if problems such as domestic abuse arise.
