Scott Frost and Nebraska football look to build on their top-20 recruiting class with a few key pieces on National Signing Day.

What started off worrisome ended in a not-so-bad season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Staring at 0-6, Nebraska picked up their first win against Minnesota in dominating fashion as Adrian Martinez took off for 401 total yards and four scores at home. Martinez missed multiple games in the early part of the season due to an injury sustained against Colorado and returned less than 100 percent against a tough Michigan defense.

The Cornhuskers’ offense would center around Matinez’s legs as well as a stable of running backs consisting of Devine Ozigbo, Maurice Washington and Greg Bell, for a brief stint.

While Nebraska’s offense would finish top 25 in total offense and top 30 in rushing, the Cornhuskers couldn’t quite find the right solutions on defense. The Cornhusker defense finished as the third worst in the Big Ten in total defense as well as in scoring defense. While their pass rush wasn’t the worst (No. 76 nationally) they had trouble creating negative plays for opposing offenses and finished No. 101 in tackles for loss.

Frost has certainly addressed defense aggressively in this postseason by bringing in inside linebacker Nick Henrich, Cornerback Noa Pola-Gates, and strong-side defensive end Ty Robinson. The issue now is how will Frost use his final roster spots?

The Huskers have 26 of their 30 spots accounted for going into the 2019 season. There are some key players still in play but they can bring in all five players. It’s also important to note the all-new transfer portal that they may look into to bring in and fill roster spots following signing day. So who are the players that Nebraska could bring in on National Signing Day?
