Florida State football is in a tough spot. After dismissing their starting quarterback the Noles are running out of options at the position in 2019.

Things continue to go from bad to worse in the quarterback room at Florida State. The Seminoles aren’t that far removed from sending EJ Manuel and Jameis Winston to the NFL as first round picks. Now they’ll be lucky to have two bonafide starting options in their quarterback room.

Here’s a rundown of what’s happened to Florida State’s quarterbacks (and recruiting targets) over the past month:

Deondre Francois. He’s been dismissed.

James Blackman. He’s in the Transfer Portal.

John Rhy Plumlee. He committed to Ole Miss.

Lance LeGendre. He committed to Maryland.

Bailey Hockman and J.J. Cosentino are no longer with the program.

Essentially, all that’s left is former Louisville transfer quarterback Jordan Travis. If that name doesn’t sound familiar it’s because most Louisville fans probably don’t remember him. He played in three games for the Cardinals last season and complete four passes on 14 attempts. That’s the best Florida State can trot out on opening day in 2019.

Landing a 5-star, marquee quarterback every year isn’t a reality at the vast majority of collegiate programs. The Noles would settle for a warm body right now. That’s a problem for a school like Florida State which has won a national championship in the last decade.

Head coach Willie Taggart’s tenure has gotten off to a rocky start. After missing a bowl game in year one he’s going to have to show significant improvement in 2019. That’s going to be hard to do without a quarterback. Florida State best figure something out soon, otherwise the once great program could be facing another lost season.
