Ohio State Football: Ryan Day strikes gold again with Enokk Vimahi
Ryan Day has been killing the recruiting game as Ohio State football’s head coach and he landed another stud in four-star Enokk Vimahi on Wednesday.
Remember when people were saying Ohio State football was ending its dominant era with the retirement of Urban Meyer? Yeah, that seems like it may have been a bit premature.
The Buckeyes are recruiting at a high level even without Meyer as Ryan Day is doing his best Urban impression, landing guys like five-star defensive end Zach Harrison back in the early signing period and all-everything former five-star transfer Justin Fields from Georgia.
As if that wasn’t enough, the new head coach went out and landed one of the best offensive linemen in the 2019 class in four-star guard Enokk Vimahi — say that name 10 times fast.
The Hawaii-native was seriously considering USC as well, but decided he’d rather play in cold weather for a proven winner. Ohio State won yet another major recruiting battle and the Buckeyes’ 2019 class is slowly creeping back up the rankings after losing some commitments following Meyer’s sudden retirement.
Everyone who thought recruiting may be Ohio State’s downfall under Day has looked silly for a couple of months now, and that’s continuing on National Signing Day.
Vimahi is a huge get for the Buckeyes not just because he’s the No. 119 recruit and fifth-best offensive guard in the class, but because they need interior linemen to replace the departing Michael Jordan and Malcolm Pridgeon. He could come in and compete for time right away.
Day continues to impress as a recruiter and he’s only going to gain steam the longer he’s head coach. Vimahi will join the rest of his ‘big recruiting wins’ in Columbus in 2019.
