Ole Miss Football: 5 Instant impact 2019 signees
By Shelbie Warr
This may be one of the biggest signees that Matt Luke and the Ole Miss Rebels were able to pull. As I have said multiple times and I am sure I will say again, this team needs defense and they need it bad. It honestly may be the key remaining to putting together a team that could make a run at the SEC West title. The player that garners the title as one of the top signees? Linebacker Lakia Henry out of Dodge City C.C. The Rebels beat out Texas and Arkansas for the top JUCO LB’s signature on National Signing Day.
“This recruiting process has been a long process,” said Henry during his commitment on National Signing Day. “I came out of high school and I didn’t have any stars. Dodge City was my only chance to come in here and get scholarships, but now I’m blessed to be the number one JUCO linebacker in the country, so it’s an honor. I just want to thank all of the coaches that recruited me. I want to thank God and I want to thank my momma. I think I’m going to be taking my talents to the University of Mississippi.”
This past season, Henry finished with 77 tackles, including 50 unassisted, three tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. According to Ole Miss linebacker’s coach Jon Sumrall, Henry is a strong linebacker who has natural instincts and an explosive play ability. This one will make Rebel fans scream Hotty Totty at the top of their lungs each and every game day for sure.
