Ole Miss Football: 5 Instant impact 2019 signees
By Shelbie Warr
I know what many are thinking, hey you skipped Jerrion Ealy- he’s a five star. Well, there is a chance that he won’t even make it to campus depending on what his decision ends up being in terms of baseball. Besides that, Ole Miss doesn’t have a shortage at the starting running back position so no matter what, they at least have Scottie Phillips who did quite well in 2018- falling just below the 1,000 yard mark.
That leaves us with the two higher ranked receivers of this class, starting with Jonathan Mingo. Ole Miss prides itself on being “Wide Receiver U” so to speak and the names that have come out of this program attest to that. Now, with a new offensive coordinator, this team will try to fill in those holes with two big guys we are about to discuss- Jonathan Mingo and Dannis Jackson. Mingo had a bit to say about that legacy.
“That played a big role,” he said to USA Today. “I knew the mentality around there would be great. Push each other, make each other better. They got LaQuon Treadwell, Donte Moncrief and AJ Brown. They still come back, help the other receivers out. They want to continue the legacy.”
At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Jonathan Mingo ranks as the No. 32 wide receiver recruit in the nation and the No. 12 prospect in Mississippi according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He was the fifth wide out to sign with the Rebels, but was one of the highest ranked and he earned just that.
