Jimbo Fisher has Texas A&M football back playing at a high level but here’s why the Aggies can compete for a national title as soon as 2019.
Call me crazy, but Texas A&M football is on its way back to the top. The Aggies exceeded year one expectations under Jimbo Fisher and they seem to be ahead of track.
The former Florida State head coach saw something in College Station that drew him away from Tallahassee where he won a national championship. Could that mean he sees a near-immediate national title shot at Texas A&M?
Fisher and Texas A&M have as good a chance as anyone to compete for the national title in 2019 and here’s why the Aggies could be serious contenders.
5. Improvement on defense
Texas A&M’s defensive improvement from the final year of Kevin Sumlin to Jimbo Fisher’s first season has been impressive. The Aggies went from No. 77 in total yards allowed in 2017 to No. 32 and a lot of that success could be attributed to Mike Elko’s guidance.
The Aggies improved in just about every metric and had multiple All-SEC performers. Unfortunately, they’re losing plenty of talent, but the way the Aggies have been recruiting, it’ll be more of a reload than a rebuild and the returners will have another year of Elko tutelage under their belts.
This side of the ball improved drastically from 2017 to 2018 and will take another step in 2019 and likely jump into the top 25 in total defense.
Don’t sleep on this Aggies defense in 2019.
