NFL Draft 2019: Top 10 bust-proof prospects entering NFL combine
By Shelbie Warr
This kid is a freak athlete if I’ve ever seen one. He is 20 pounds heavier than Josh Allen out of Kentucky, but is just as fast as Allen — a guy who has been talked about as a possible top-five pick. He was a member of the elite Michigan defense that had its way vs. opponents in 2018 — Ohio State and Florida notwithstanding, of course.
Gary is known for how well he sheds opposing lineman with speed and strength. He blows by and overpowers anyone weaker than him and his weight: 283 pounds, allows him to rush from the interior as a defensive tackle if necessary.
Of course, with stronger and smarter lineman in the NFL he will have to add to his arsenal of moves. That being considered though, very few people are questioning his ability to do just that.
The Michigan defensive end only had 3.5 sacks and 38 tackles (6.5 for loss) in nine games in 2019. He struggled a bit after a shoulder injury during prep for Week 1 against Notre Dame. That is definitely a red flag for a couple of NFL evaluators, but it will be something he can overcome for sure. Gary is going to make a splash in the NFL, that much is for sure in my book.
