NFL Draft 2019: Top 10 bust-proof prospects entering NFL combine
By Shelbie Warr
Once again, we move to the SEC to talk about another player that is almost bust-proof — Jeffery Simmons, a defensive lineman out of Mississippi State.
That team as a whole wasn’t all that great, but the defense was and Montez Sweat was the center of it all. His partner in crime, Simmons, recently tore an ACL and will be struggling through the recovery process for that. With that, Sweat seems to be the star coming out of Starkville and very few people are shocked about that.
Sweat is 6-foot-6 and towers over many offensive lineman and that makes him a constant threat to swat passes down at the line — which is something he does often. He started his career at Michigan State before transferring to Mississippi State, where he now has 23 sacks to his name. He has elite quickness and closing ability that has allowed him to have two double-digit sack seasons in the SEC.
Simply put, Sweat is beaming with star potential and has the ability to make an instant impact for a team in year one. Many have him in the top 10 pick range, but we will see where he ends up. No matter what, though, this guy is going to grow under a good defensive coach and become the player that so many know he can be.
