Notre Dame will be facing a familiar face in Week 3, following a rare Week 2 bye, as former head coach Bob Davie will be headed back to South Bend. He coached the Irish from 1997-2001 and had quite the up-and-down career. He was 0-3 in bowl games and never had a 10-win season, winning nine two times — he also missed a bowl twice in his five years.

Davie has taken over at New Mexico after a decade-long hiatus and after he missed a bowl game in his first three seasons with the Lobos, he made two straight. Since then, though, the Lobos are 6-18 after consecutive 3-9 seasons.

The Lobos aren’t going to present a major challenge for Notre Dame, but the only thing going for them is the fact that Davie will be more motivated than ever to record an upset against his former team.

New Mexico won’t have quite as many pieces on either side of the ball to make the necessary stops and subsequent scores which means this one will be relatively lopsided.

Davie will be sent home packing with yet another loss in Notre Dame Stadium.

Final Score: New Mexico 10, Notre Dame 42 (2-0)
