NFL Combine News: Kyler Murray to Arizona Cardinals gaining steam
By Shelbie Warr
The NFL Combine is underway and the drama has begun. Could Josh Rosen be headed out of Arizona in favor of Kyler Murray with the number one pick?
Many people were set that the Arizona Cardinals would go after Nick Bosa or Josh Allen with that number one pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. It would make sense as the team needs some defense to really be successful in the 2019 season and beyond.
However, it seems that new head coach Kliff Kingsbury and the Cardinals front office has some other thoughts in mind.
Cardinals’ general manager Steve Keim was interviewed this morning and made some comments on how he feels about starting quarterback Josh Rosen out of UCLA. Rosen hasn’t exactly been spectacular, but he has done enough to win a handful of games. He did throw more interceptions that touchdowns in 2018, a stat that no one in the Cardinals camp is happy with. He wasn’t exactly all that mobile either, something that an offense ran by new head coach Kliff Kinsgbury is very much in the market for.
It would make sense for Josh Rosen to be traded, especially with the GM making comments such as the fact that Rosen is the starter “for now.” With Kingsbury at the helm, this will likely become an offensive heavy team and Rosen really isn’t going to get it done if this team wants to be more than just “eh.”
Enter Kyler Murray, who recently chose football over baseball. The reigning Heisman winner has everything you could want in a dual threat quarterback and could do quite well in the Cardinals system. I would not be surprised to see the Cardinals go for him in the first round with that coveted first pick of the draft.
“Kyler’s a tremendous athlete, quarterback, one of the better ones I ever recruited out of high school,” Kingsbury said in an interview with PFT Live at the NFL Combine. “He’s pretty special. He’s one of the most dynamic athletes on the field regardless of position, and he can drop back, be mechanically sound and hurt you from the pocket.”
