Secondary

Starting Cornerbacks: Charles Oliver, Myles Jones
Backups: Debione Renfro, Clifford Chattman
Watch Out For: Elijah Blades

The secondary was the biggest issue for the Aggies in 2018. The unit caused issue after issue with allowing big gains by anyone and everyone- not just the big teams of the SEC either. This team nearly lost to Arkansas and much of that was due to the secondary’s lack of fight. The Aggies hope that gets better with some players growing up and others joining the program.

Corner was one of the biggest question marks of that unit. It seems that Charles Oliver and Myles Jones will return as starters in that position. However, it seems to me that JUCO transfer Elijah Blades could make a huge statement and move into the starting cornerback position. That will have to wait until after spring practice to become official though.

Starting Nickel/Rover: Larry Pryor
Backup: Roney Elam

Last season, now senior Larry Pryor started at this position. He appeared in all 12 games, compiling 34 tackles, a sack, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. He has shown that he has every ability to play the rover position and do it well. However, Roney Elam has gotten better and better and could make a run at the position as well.

Starting Safeties: Leon O’ Neal, Derrick Tucker
Backups: Keldrick Carper, Larry Pryor

Leon O’ Neal has talked smack online, but has finally started to back everything up with his play especially during the Gator Bowl when he became the star of the defensive show. He, along with hard-hitting Derrick Tucker, will likely be the starting safeties for the Aggies. Carper is the backup and Pryor will move to that position when necessary, but will likely start as the rover.
