Kyler Murray was the clear winner from day one of measurements at the 2019 NFL Draft, proving he’s tall enough to play professional football.

Leading up to the 2019 NFL Combine the scouting world was buzzing about Kyler Murray. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner would be present for weight and measurement checks, finally ending the speculation as to exactly how small the former Oklahoma quarterback was. Murray passed the test with flying colors.

According to the official measurements, Kyler Murray is 5-foot-10 and 1/8th inches tall. That puts him in the same neighborhood as fellow small-statured quarterback Russell Wilson, who measured 5-foot-10 and 5/8th inches. Murray’s weight (207 pounds) and hand size (9 1/2 inches), were each comfortably above expectations.

Checking in above 5-foot-9 is of tremendous significance. While shorter quarterbacks remain the exception to the rule, it’s much more likely a team takes a shot on a slightly shorter quarterback than spends a premium pick on a player who’s height is a complete outlier.

If Murray does go No. 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals, as is gaining steam at the NFL Combine, he’ll be in the running for the shortest top pick of all time. Still, he’s got company on the 5-foot-10 plateau, and that’s a big plus for his draft stock.

NFL teams are risk averse, especially when it comes to the NFL Draft. Murray isn’t going to grow a few more inches overnight, but he is tall enough. Even if there are doubters, that’s okay. Murray doesn’t need to convince 32 teams his height shouldn’t be a concern. He only has to convince one. The chances of him falling out of the first round continue to look more and more remote.
