Kyler Murray continues to skyrocket up NFL Draft boards. His latest leap could make him the No. 1 overall pick.

Every year at the NFL combine agents and scouts start to talk. The upcoming NFL draft class has been discussed just like any other, and that includes prognostications about the No. 1 overall pick.

Last year it Sam Darnold.  He was projected to be the No. 1 pick right up until draft night. Analysts and fans were stunned when the Cleveland Browns elected to select Baker Mayfield instead.

Now, just like last year, there is a front runner for the top pick. Former Oklahoma quarterback and Oakland A’s draft pick Kyler Murray is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick.

Unlike last year, this rumor seems to have staying power. Newly hired Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has been connected with Murray from the start and Murray’s former teammate, Baker Mayfield, had an incredible rookie season with the Browns. Kingsbury’s affinity combined with Lincoln Riley’s pipeline at Oklahoma makes it seem like there is some fire to all this smoke.

Of course, even if all of that holds true, ghe Arizona Cardinals will still have to pull the trigger and make their selection. Other teams will want to trade up, the Cardinals will have to find a way to move Josh Rosen. There’s always room for a change of heart over the next several weeks — that goes for the Cardinals and for Murray, who could still conceivably return to baseball if things don’t work out the way he’d prefer. With all of those extensive caveats, Kyler Murray looks like he’ll be the No. 1 pick.
