The third day of the 2019 NFL Combine saw defensive lineman and linebackers take center stage. Which players had the most impactful performances?
We’re three days into the onfield workout portion of the NFL Combine and the action is as intense as ever. After Saturday the only position group remaining will be the defensive backs, scheduled to workout on Day 4. They’ll wrap up the 2019 version of the infamous “underwear Olympics”, but only after the defensive lineman and linebackers had their moment in the sun.
The 40-yard dash is the marquee event at workouts such as this, but there were notable interview comments and other Combine events that made waves on Day 3. Here are some of the most notable.
1. Big men running fast is scary
Day 1 and Day 2 of the NFL Combine workouts saw some speedy performances by running backs and wide receivers. Although nobody came close to challenging the record set by John Ross in the 40-yard dash, there were guys like D.K. Metcalf who turned heads. But the most impressive run of the entire week might belong to Mississippi State defensive lineman Montez Sweat.

Sweat ran a blistering 4.42 40-yard dash. How fast is that? That’s faster than all but seven of the wide receivers who ran at the Combine this year. Now imagine you’re a quarterback and a man that big and fast is coming off the ball right at you. Yikes.
