Head Coach

In terms of legend and lore, no coach compares to Steve Spurrier. The Head Ball Coach accomplished many firsts for the Gators – winning the first Heisman Trophy and winning the first national championship remain the foremost accomplishments. Spurrier beckoned an offensive revolution in college football and set the expectations for how future Gator teams should play. Spurrier finished his Florida career with a winning record of 81 percent. Spurrier was inducted into the inaugural Ring of Honor class in 2006.

For all his exploits, Spurrier is not the only national championship winning coach. Urban Myer won more national championships for the Gators than any other coach and initiated Florida’s so-called second golden era.

Like Spurrier, Meyer recruited and coached some of the greatest players in Gator history, and added to the already-rich history of offensive dominance. Meyer finished with a record of 65-15 and a 5-1 bowl record. Though currently not a member of the Ring of Honor, momentum has picked up to add Meyer’s name to the elite company.
