With spring practice underway, Alabama Football has several starting spots up for grabs with a wealth of talent to replace. Here’s the five most intriguing position battles.

Alabama Football enters spring practice with a lot of question marks after losing 12 starters from last season’s team. There was already a wealth of talented seniors departing, which was then compounded by a program-record seven juniors ultimately making the decision to forego their remaining eligibility and enter the NFL Draft.

No one is going to sympathize for Nick Saban’s plight with cupboards bursting full of young talent ready to step in to increased roles. Saban signed yet another No. 1 recruiting class in the 2019 cycle, bringing in a group that boasts numerous players who should compete for immediate playing time. Several of those will go through spring practice with the Crimson Tide, giving them an even bigger opportunity to showcase their talent.

Alabama is thin at several positions heading into spring. There’s not a dearth of talent available, but experience is another matter. The Tide is lacking in game experience at several spots, and getting those players up to speed throughout the spring will be paramount to having them ready for kickoff at the end of August.

14-1 seasons that don’t end with a national title aren’t disappointments anywhere but Tuscaloosa. That’s the heights that Saban has brought the program to in his 12 seasons at the helm of the Crimson Tide. With a shocking defeat to Clemson in Santa Clara behind them, Alabama pushes forward with a mostly new coaching staff as they try to get back to playing to the standard that helped them become arguably the greatest dynasty in college football history.

Last season’s bitter disappointment at the end provides the needed motivation for a team that has had its shares of complacency battles. The wound is still fresh as spring football kicks into high gear.

With starting spots and key reserve slots available on both sides of the football, let’s take a look at the five most intriguing positional battles to watch during the spring:
