Ed Orgeron has a talented LSU football team returning in 2019 but who could we see breaking out for the Tigers as spring practice kicks off?
For Ed Orgeron, going 10-3 isn’t exactly a disappointment, but he knows his LSU football teams can do better. He’s recruiting at a high level and he has veterans leading the way, but he’ll have to fill some big shoes — such as Devin White and Greedy Williams — in 2019.
The Tigers are sending a multitude of players to the NFL and that means there are going to be some openings for breakout candidates to emerge and prove themselves worthy of being household names as early as spring ball.
Who could emerge as breakout candidates for the Tigers this spring?
Though he’s just a true freshman, early enrollee Siaki Ika could find himself in a favorable position if he realized the opportunity in front of his eyes. He’s already on campus, therefore he’ll be around this spring with the team so he will have a good feel for the increase in speed of the game as well as strength, but he shouldn’t have to worry about the latter at 6-foot-2.5 and 375 pounds.
Yes, a 375-pound incoming freshman may seem like a lost cause, but this kid is talented as a former four-star and All-American.
Edwin Alexander has left the nose tackle position up for grabs and it could be between Ika, Tyler Shelvin and Dominic Livingston when fall ball kicks off. But this spring is critical for the Salt Lake City-native.
Ika has all the tools necessary to become a day one contributor and with his size, he’ll be virtually impossible for offensive linemen to contain. Keep an eye on this freshman breakout candidate.
