Scott Frost and Nebraska football ended the 2018 season on a high note, setting up high expectations for 2019. Who could break out this spring?
No one expected an instant turnaround for Nebraska football in 2018 after Scott Frost took over, but the Cornhuskers got off to a slow start, to say the least.
In fact, the Cornhuskers started 0-6 and people were talking about a potential 0-12 year, but they finished the year on a high note, winning four of their final six games. This set up some positive momentum heading into the 2019 season, starting with spring ball.
With Frost’s second recruiting class filtering in to campus (early enrollees), the head coach is starting to get his guys into place which could mean breakout candidates galore.
Which Cornhuskers could break out this spring?
As Nebraska’s second-highest rated prospect in the 2018 class, Cameron Jurgens came to Lincoln as an “athlete” with his primary position being tight end.
Fast forward a year and we are looking at a redshirt freshman who has shifted down the offensive line and is staring down the center position. In fact, he’s thought to be one of four players vying for that starting job at center and Scott Frost had some high praise for him just a year ago.
Frost on Cameron Jurgens: "We got him at tight end right now. I'm not sure what he is, but I know he's one of the best athletes on the team, and maybe the most powerful guy we have on the team."

Though you don’t often see the best athletes on the team play in the trenches, he has the power necessary to make a difference on the offensive line.
Just how dedicated is Jurgens to breaking through on the offensive line? He skipped spring break to remain on campus and learn the center position even more. This kid has the perfect attitude and all the talent to break out this spring.
