“With the 97th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the World Champion New England Patriots select David Sills, wide receiver, West Virginia University.”

The New England Patriots will try to repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 2019, but they’ll be without Rob Gronkowski who announced his retirement on March 24.

Tom Brady flirted with the idea of retirement, too, sending the Twittersphere into disarray by announcing it via the platform, although it was on April Fool’s Day. He’ll be back for another run at a Lombardi in 2019.

Brady will be doing so with 6-foot-4, former quarterback-turned-wide receiver David Sills. Sills’ 35 career touchdowns as a Mountaineer rank second all-time, just behind Stedman Bailey‘s 41.

One clear reason Sills-to-New England makes sense is the Patriots’ loss of Gronkowski. No, Sills will not replace the production of the greatest tight end to ever lace them up. But he will provide a height advantage on the outside against most defenders and in the redzone where he flourished at WVU. If Will Grier could force-feed Sills at WVU, Tom Brady is capable of the same at the next level. Sills is a decent blocker in the running game and can contribute on special teams, as well, providing plenty of traits to get on the field for the Patriots.
