Montaric Brown was a kid who Chad Morris had extremely high praise for a year ago in fall camp and who was thought to be a potential starter, but found himself behind senior Ryan Pulley on the depth chart.

Now that Pulley is gone, the redshirt sophomore may finally have the opportunity he’s been waiting for with a starting spot within his grasp.

Last fall, Morris praised Brown for having a “really good camp so far” and he was making big plays in practices from the cornerback spot. Now that it’s his starting job to lose, he no longer has to sit with the twos and wait for his turn. This is his chance to prove he can start as a defensive back in the SEC.

Brown is a talented corner who moves well and has a knack for finding the ball. He reads plays well and even though he hasn’t shown it extensively — as he’s played in just four career games — he’ll see plenty of action in 2019 to prove himself.

It all starts this spring and if he can remain healthy, he could become a leader in the secondary.
