Brienne of Tarth

Gwendoline Christie’s Lady Brienne has been an underdog her whole life. As a female, she has been doubted in her ability to fight. Women aren’t supposed to be knights, but barriers have never meant much to Brienne. She’ll kick them down and take what she wants.

Brienne once defeated The Hound, a near literal giant, in one-on-one combat, leaving him for dead. She’s not a threat to sit on the throne at the end, but she might slay a giant or two along the way that opens the path for another.

Brienne is Boise State. Like her, the Broncos have never had much use for the barriers that say a group of five team can’t compete with the big boys. Whether in the WAC or the Mountain West, Boise State has taken down its fair share of giants.

The Broncos aren’t the original BCS buster, but their shocking victory over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl opened a lot of eyes, and paved the way for others to follow in their path.

Boise State might not ever get the opportunity to play for a national championship, but it will willingly take on all-comers, and in a mano-a-mano situation, the Broncos have proven to be a near-impossible out.
