2. The QB situation

As most college football fans know by now, quarterback Trace McSorley has moved on to the next level. Three years of not only being a solid quarterback but also a tremendous leader is not easily replaced. Penn State will take those first steps in the Blue-White game.

Tommy Stevens has waited his turn and it looks like finally for his senior year, he will get his opportunity. However he has been limited in spring practice by his recovery from surgery in December. Stevens is gifted physically and has good mobility to go with a strong arm.

With Stevens limited participation this spring, Sean Clifford had more opportunities to work out and show the coaches what he brings to the table. Fans saw flashes of it last year as Clifford completed his first five passes in his career for 195 yards and two touchdowns in mostly mop up duty. Regardless of when it occurred, those stats are impressive and it was clear the kid has a cannon for an arm.

Redshirt freshman Will Levis also took more reps in recent practices while Clifford battled an illness. All three guys will get significant playing time in the spring game and it will be interesting to watch how far they have progressed in their development and in Stevens case, his recovery.
