2. Replacing Myles Gaskin

For the Huskies, perhaps no departure is greater than that of running back Myles Gaskin. His Washington career was steeped in a mind-boggling consistency. The two-time All PAC-12 Second Team selection posted uber impressive numbers in a Huskies uniforms — gaining more than 1,200 in each of the four seasons he was in college.

In the process, he became the first player in PAC-12 history to rush for at least 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons.

Not only was Gaskin extremely consistent with his production, but he also played in a ton of games. The least amount of games he played in a season was last year with 12 appearances. Undoubtedly, Gaskin was a big reason for Washington’s success and was the heartbeat of the team. Given his big-time numbers, it appears he will be difficult to replace.

Washington isn’t exactly spread thin at running back, though. On the rise is junior Salvon Ahmed, who ran complimentary to Gaskin in the backfield last season. He will be the most likely candidate to run the show in the backfield.

Ahmed enjoyed a sizeable leap in output during his sophomore year in 2018 — nearly doubling both his rushing attempts and yardage.

Last year, he played in all 14 games and carried the ball 104 times for 608 yards and seven touchdowns. While he may not have had as many touches as he could have because of Gaskin’s reliability, he could have had a more productive season.

Ahmed has the potential to have a breakout season if he follows a similar year-to-year trend that he experienced in the past.
