1. Feleipe Franks is confident and in command

After a four-touchdown, 327-yard performance, Feleipe Franks slammed the door shut on the idea of a quarterback competition. He was loose, he was confident, he was the clear leader.

“I think he knows where to go with the football now. He’s becoming a more complete quarterback,” said former Gator Great Chris Doering during the broadcast. Franks’ journey has been a dramatic ride, but he finally seems to be comfortable and prepared to lead the Gators to new heights in 2019.

One of the aspects of Franks’ game that needed the most improvement was his accuracy on throws more than 10 yards downfield. Franks not only showed great poise in the pocket, but his deep ball shined, even when under pressure or flushed from the pocket.

On a touchdown pass in the second quarter, Franks stood tall in the pocket while looking the safety off before delivering a perfect spiral to Grimes 30 yards down the field for an easy touchdown. On another play, Franks maneuvered out of the pocket to his right, kept his eyes downfield and hit Toney down the right sideline for a big chunk of yards. Franks looked sharp on screens and connected with Van Jefferson multiple times on quick slant routes.

Franks shared during the broadcast that he’s been working with Mullen and quarterback coach Brian Johnson on his accuracy and also his leadership. Several mentions were made to ignoring outside criticism, as well.

Overall, Franks looks like he’s grown into the position and is set up to reach his full potential this upcoming season.
