West Virginia Football: 5 players trending up after 2019 Gold-Blue Spring Game
By Phil Poling
No. 5: Stone Wolfley | Defensive Line
Stone Wolfley was the first name out of coach Neal Brown’s mouth in the post-game presser following Saturday’s spring game. He prefaced his praise with, “I’ll start with the defensive guys,” but still – Wolfley’s name jumped to the front of his mind.
Brown could’ve been reading the stat sheet too, though, as Wolfley led the Gold team with three solo tackles and was one of two ‘Eers to record two sacks. Jack Allison, quarterback of the Blue team, was the victim of five sacks, but Wolfley made sure to be in on the action.
Defensive coordinator Vic Koenning gave Wolfley plenty of credit too, saying, “I think Wolfley today — I’m not sure who he was going against — but he was trying to set the school [sack] record in the spring game,”
After serving in a reserve role on defense and playing primarily on special teams the past few seasons, Wolfley is emerging as a key contributor leading up to his final season. Maybe the Morgantown native realizes his senior season will fly by, with plans to take advantage of every opportunity.
