Former three-star safety recruit in Notre Dame’s 2018 class Paul Moala had a good spring as well and maybe turned some heads on both the coaching staff and within the fan base.

Unfortunately, Moala appeared in seven games last season, which burned his redshirt, but he should be in line to have a breakout 2019 campaign. He totaled just one tackle in those seven appearances last season, but after watching him in the spring game, he could push for starting time — and not at his natural safety position, either.

You read that right, Moala was projected to be a backup at safety — potentially breaking the two-deep this fall — but he looked like a solid option at Rover and he should be challenging for the starting job.

Just how good did Moala look during the spring game? He was arguably the biggest standout on the defensive side of the ball, totaling nine tackles and two sacks. He was all over the place and looked like a completely different player from a season ago.

Moala definitely improved his stock and may have just played himself into a starting job.
