Oregon football held its annual spring game on Saturday afternoon and we learned quite a bit about the 2019 Ducks. What stood out?

The spring game is in the books and Oregon gave fans a taste of what the highly-anticipated 2019 season will look like. The Ducks’ first-team offense and second-team defense got the win, 20-13.

Justin Herbert led the way with 212 passing yards while backup Tyler Shough had 178 yards as each offense was pass-heavy with almost double the amount of passing plays as rush attempts.

Although spring is just a warmup for the regular season and by no means is the final step before the team takes the field in the fall, we learned more about this team heading into the summer.

What’d we learn from the Ducks’ 2019 spring game?

5. Tyler Shough is primed to replace Justin Herbert in 2020

The quarterbacks did a solid job during Saturday’s scrimmage as Justin Herbert didn’t surprise anyone with his 212 passing yards and two touchdowns, but it was Tyler Shough who opened some eyes.

Everyone knows what Herbert brings to the table and all the attention under center was focused on the backup. Shough didn’t disappoint and made fans feel much better about the future of the offense as the redshirt freshman passed for 178 yards and no touchdowns on 18-of-31 completions. His lone interception came on his last pass attempt of the day.

Accuracy, a strong arm and good decision-making made Shough a strong option to replace Herbert next season and he’s far ahead of previous backups.
