Nebraska Football: 5 players trending up after spring 2019
Nebraska football blew the rest of the nation away in spring game attendance, but which Cornhusker players are trending up heading into 2019?
Scott Frost entered his second spring with Nebraska football garnering high expectations. Fans were optimistic despite a 4-8 season in 2018 because of what the Cornhuskers return.
Nebraska brings back potential All-Big Ten quarterback Adrian Martinez, a talented backfield, deep wide receiving corps and an improving defense. The offensive line is losing just two starters and the Cornhuskers have the pieces to make the rest of the Big Ten sweat.
There’s a reason the Cornhuskers are in everyone’s preseason rankings and fans showed up in droves to watch the spring game, topping every program in college football with close to 85,000 in attendance.
Which Cornhuskers are trending up after spring practices?
To start his first season with Nebraska, Barret Pickering wasn’t exactly winning fans over. He started the season just 4-of-8 on field goals. There was concern that he wasn’t quite what the team was looking for at kicker, but he turned things around, drilling his final 10 field goals to end the year.
Finishing the season 14-of-18 on field goal tries and 40-for-41 on extra points, he silenced some early-season doubters, but how would he progress heading into his second season?
Pickering has once again proven to be a viable option at kicker and he may even be one of the more consistent options in the Big Ten. He went 3-for-3 in the spring game and 4-for-4 on extra points. He made field goals from 27, 33 and 45 yards and was as automatic as they come.
Nebraska no longer has to worry about its kicker because Pickering is improving by the day and this spring proved just that.
