NFL Draft 2019: Denver Broncos grab Iowa’s Noah Fant
By Shelbie Warr
The Broncos have a lot of holes on their roster, but tight end may just be the biggest one. They fixed that, grabbing Noah Fant in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Broncos have tight ends on the roster, but none are really doing what the team needs them to do. There is a dire need for an instant impact talent here and Noah Fant is exactly that. He is a big-time receiving tight end that the Broncos needed for Joe Flacco to connect with in space.
Fant picked up 19 touchdowns in his career, the majority of them coming in 2017 and 2018. He has 1,083 yards to his name and the ability to make that a much bigger number as an NFL tight end. That’s a lot of production for a college tight end, making Fant almost impossible for the Broncos to pass up.
Fant was part of the Iowa one-two punch of tight ends with TJ Hockenson. While Hockenson was the guy who would carve up defenses, Fant was a matchup nightmare and that is exactly what he was drafted for. He has excellent athleticism that has been seen on tape and at the Combine that many people are extremely excited to see play out in Denver.
Grade: A
This is an A grade pick for me for the Broncos. This was a position that they needed in a big way and they went out, despite trading down with Pittsburgh, and still got their guy in Fant. This team is done trying to get by without a real tight end that is able to shine on the field and have now joined the club of great pass catchers at the tight end position.
