2019 NFL Draft: 5 most surprising picks of Round 1
By Phil Poling
The Green Bay Packers took one of the biggest gambles on draft night, selecting Michigan’s Rashan Gary with the twelfth overall pick. Like the Raiders, the Packers owned multiple first round picks, so spending one on Gary wasn’t a terrible decision, but it was a head-scratcher after watching their free agency acquisitions.

They added two pass rushers in Preston and Za’Darius Smith, along with Adrian Amos at safety. (They drafted another safety with their second first round pick). But they also moved on from long-time Packer Clay Matthews and still need to replace Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.
Gary’s potential is possibly the highest of any prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft. But he also has one of the lowest floors. Which player will show up in Green Bay? The player who was a 5-star recruit out of high school? Or the Michigan Wolverine who never quite put it all together? It’s going to be fun watching Gary’s career unfold, especially with the talent surrounding him in Green Bay.
